The Bodil Eskesen Center
Well-maintained rehabilitation universe
In 2023, a new neurorehabilitation center, the Bodil Eskesen Centre, was added to Glostrup Hospital in Denmark. The modern building was constructed according to the latest findings in healing architecture and offers a highly specialized environment for patients with severe brain and spinal cord injuries.
The center is surrounded by a green park, which gives the building a harmonious and inviting landscape character. AART Architects has elegantly integrated the expression of the park into the choice of materials for the façade.
In strong reference to the landscape, part of the building is clad in Western Red Cedar. The reddish hue of the wood gives the building a warm expression, and in combination with an almost knot-free type of wood, a beautiful and exclusive appearance is achieved.
Cedar wood is ideal for cladding as it is highly resistant to weathering, rot, insects and fungi. It also has a low density and requires minimal maintenance.
Nordisk Profil supplied wooden slats for several parts of the façade, including the side cladding and the ceiling in the entrance area. In addition, the technical buildings on the roof were also clad with Western Red Cedar.
Woodfac Panel was used for the timber cladding, which acts as a closed building envelope and protects the building from the weather. The slats are mounted with a center distance (cc) of 70 or 100 mm and are available in the dimensions 34x34 mm and 34x65 mm. However, the design is fully customizable and the choice of wood type is flexible. This allows you to create a customized façade with systems that are fire tested and approved according to European standards.
